Rohde & Schwarz and TRUMPF agree to collaborate on drone defense

Rohde & Schwarz and TRUMPF will collaborate in the future on the development of drone defense solutions. They will combine Rohde & Schwarz's expertise in electromagnetic spectrum control and radar sensor technology with TRUMPF's high-energy laser technology. The goal is to detect, track, and neutralize drones.

Munich/Ditzingen, October 22, 2025 – Technology companies Rohde & Schwarz and TRUMPF SE + Co. KG have announced a strategic partnership to develop and provide a comprehensive, nationally produced drone defense solution. This collaboration combines Rohde & Schwarz's drone defense solution in the field of electromagnetics and radar sensor technology with TRUMPF's laser technology. This will enable the detection, tracking, and defense against the growing threat posed by drones on various platforms. The expertise of both companies will provide customers with defense against drone-based threats. Rohde & Schwarz will integrate TRUMPF's high-energy laser system into a complete drone defense ecosystem.

"We are proud to be working with TRUMPF to offer a sovereign solution for drone defense," says Dr. Alexander Orellano, Head of the Technology Systems Division at Rohde & Schwarz. "This collaboration combines the strengths of both companies to address critical security needs. Investment in European defense, and in particular in drone defense technology, is of paramount importance."

"Our laser technology, our expertise in beam guidance and shaping, and our internally anchored supply chain of system-critical subcomponents offer a highly innovative solution for drone defense," explains Dr. Hagen Zimer, TRUMPF's board member responsible for laser technology. "In combination with Rohde & Schwarz’s drone defense expertise, this enables us to deliver a truly effective and integrated solution for protecting critical infrastructure and securing sensitive areas."

Both companies recognize the importance of using their technologies purely defensively to address new security risks—a responsibility they now share.
