"Real-time locating systems" (RTLS) make it possible to track the location of objects and new applications such as effortless booking of storage locations or setup-free use of automated guided vehicle systems. The core components of an RTLS are permanently installed satellites, flexible tags, a localization software for determining location data and applications which access this data to facilitate various use cases such as the tracking of objects. Different technologies are used to achieve this. TRUMPF uses real-time localization with UWB (ultra wide band) as well as the open industry standard omlox to provide interoperable solutions. The localization is carried out by measuring the transit time of the signals (time-of-flight).
